So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. – Matthew 7:12 (NIV)
Probably one of the most unwarranted and unwanted calls that I receive during the day are sales calls. The sales person is very persistent and I can’t get a word in edgewise unless I rudely interrupt. Like a bull dozer they don’t stop until they get their entire message out. They tend to have a one track mindset…to get you to purchase their product.
Recently I had to make sales calls on behalf of a Christian organization. Being on the other end of the call gave me a whole new respect for those who place the calls. It reminded me that they are simply doing their job. It also helped me to reach beyond the phone line and realize that this person is also a precious creation of God. He or she has a heart and perhaps my response could have a profound impact on their day.
Through this experience, I have decided to give them what they least expect. I intend to speak to them with respect and dignity that I know would be pleasing to my Heaven Father. That doesn’t mean that I relinquish my right to refuse their offer, it simply means that I will use this as an opportunity to let the love of Christ shine through me and hopefully have a positive impact on their day.
Lord, I thank You for helping me to think outside the box of ways that I can be a positive witness for You. I pray that others would follow suit and we will change the world one heart at a time.
