I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a man was caught up to the third heaven. – 2 Corinthians 12:2 (NASB)
Do you think Paul’s experience was out of the ordinary? Do you view it as a mystical encounter? Was it an experience that God reserved solely for Paul or would He like each of us to interact with Him in a like manner? As Paul stated, the important part was not whether it was an outer body experience but that he was in the presence of the Lord.
Since the Word of God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, I think that this type of experience is available to each of us. If for any reason this experience seems far fetched or weird, it is because we as a society have changed, not God. Because of all the noise that goes on around us we fail to see that “God is in this place”, no matter where we are. There is no invisible ceiling where He is there and we are here.
All the latest and greatest devices are great, but many times they stand in the pathway of our direct connection to God. In order to tap into heaven, we must silence the background noise. Unfortunately many of us use these things as a means of escape. We are afraid to take a deep look inside and possibly have to deal with painful issues that we’ve tried to suppress. Even though the silence may seem awkward at first, you will be amazed at the lasting healing that will take place. Before long you will sense His heartbeat and receive messages that He so longs to download into your spirit on a regular basis.
Lord, help me to realize that tapping into Your presence is not some weird far fetched experience. As I quiet myself and the things around me, it will allow my spirit to commune with you as if I was in Your heavenly presence. Speak Lord for I am ready to listen.
