Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Do you always desire to have things go according to your personal preference? Our humanistic side tends to gravitate toward being self-centered. Propaganda capitalizes on our inward desire to not settle for anything less than having everything exactly as our flesh desires. There is even a well-known hamburger commercial that promotes that you should “Have It Your Way”.
Probably one of the most dangerous situations to be in is when we are persistent in having it our way after God has clearly said no. If we continue to hound Him to allow us to have our own way, and He gives in, the consequences could be detrimental. Stepping out of His perfect will in order to pursue the desires of the flesh will result in us sitting amidst a heap of ashes in hopes that we would have not gone astray.
On the contrary, the way to live in the flow of God’s blessings is to reserve the “Have It Your Way” slogan for God. As we surrender and allow Him to have His way in and through our lives, we can rest assured that everything we experience has God’s stamp of approval. Even the situations that don’t appear to be good at first, if we are living according to His guidelines He will work them out for the good in the end.
Lord, I surrender my self-centered desire to have things my way. I reserve the slogan, “Have It Your Way” for You and only You.
