Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
As a Christian, probably the most comforting thing is to hear the voice of God (not audible of course, but as an impression upon the heart). Most of us long to know what God wills for our lives. Being in the center of God’s will is not always easy but it is the best place to be. It is also the safest place to be; as we are in the center of God’s will it provides a hedge of protection over our lives.
The time we tend to get ourselves in trouble is when we don’t receive clear direction as to the next step we are to take so we panic and run ahead of God by trying to frantically figure out His will. The loving God we serve does not play games with our emotions. He would never want us to try to guess what His will is for our lives. As a matter of fact, Psalm 139:16 says all of our days were ordained before one of them came to be.
If there is ever a day when you do not hear clear directions from God as to the next step you must take, it is important not to panic. You should hang on, as though it is a life preserver, to the last word or words that you heard proceed from the mouth of God. You should continue to respond according to the last instruction you received until you receive the next clear instruction.
Lord, You created me so You know how I process information. Speak to me in a way that you know I will be able to understand what Your will is for my path. Help me to hang on to every Word that proceeds from Your mouth as my life preserver to keep me afloat until I receive the next set of instructions.
