“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
Do you feel that the weight of your troubles is just too heavy for you to bear? Are your circumstances pushing against you and you’ve tried to push back, but to no avail? Has it stripped every ounce of energy out of you to the point where the only thing you feel you can do is to lie down underneath it? Like a boxing match, are there people in the corner of the ring yelling, “Get back up and fight”?
Depression is one of the worst experiences that a person can go through in life. The sun can be shinning as bright as possible but according to your brain it is portrayed as the darkest of nights. Even though you are amidst a sea of faces, you are experiencing loneliness as though you were on a deserted island. You cry out for assistance, but unlike a physical wound, there is no human who can provide a quick fix to stop the pain. At this point you try to get out of bed but you have no energy to even lift yourself up.
I want to encourage you…help is on the way. You are not alone. Dedicate the depression to God. Admit to Him that you cannot do it alone. Allow His restoring power to circulate through the veins in your seemingly lifeless body. He will, without a doubt, carry you through this season in your life. Can you feel your strength being restored?
Jesus, I thank You that You understand the pain of heaviness and darkness like no other, even to the point whereas You sweated drops of blood. Come alongside my weary brothers and sisters and lift them up out of this state of depression. May the light of Your presence cause all darkness over them to dissipate.
