What is the state of your heart? Do you have a teachable spirit? God can do so much through a human vessel who has a teachable spirit. Jesus was the perfect example of one who constantly maintained a teachable spirit. He simply watched what the Father was doing and did likewise. As with many who don’t appear to have a teachable spirit, it is usually tied to underlying issues. Many believers fear being teachable because it often accompanies discomfort. Responding with a teachable spirit often requires that we abandon the familiar and set out for territory that we have not yet chartered. One important truth to remember is that God would never call us to do something that He has not previously explored firsthand. There has never nor will there ever be any territory unchartered by God; it simply does not exist. If fear of the unknown is the issue that keeps you from responding with a teachable spirit, take heart. Do not let it plague you any longer. Invite God to help you renew your commitment to your first love. Psalm 143:10 is a great place to start. It reads, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” One can never go wrong by watching Jesus as He learns from the Father and as a result does likewise.
Lord, help us to refrain from growing spiritually stagnant as a result of not being willing to be teachable, regardless of any underlying problem.
