Cost v/s Benefits

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me”. – Matthew 16:24 (NIV)

Would you agree that there is a cost to following Christ? Depending on where you live or the state of your current circumstance, the cost to you may be higher than that of others. Nevertheless, there is always a cost. With that cost there is a choice that each one of us has to make as to whether we are willing to pay the price.

Even the mere act of carving out quiet time to spend with Him, will require us to sacrifice time spent elsewhere. Following Him may also cost you to forfeit relationships that are no longer conducive to living a righteous life. No matter how spiritually unhealthy a relationship may be, it’s not always easy to simply walk away.

You may wonder why a relationship with Him is so costly. The truth of the matter is that it cost a man His life. The benefits, on the other hand, far outweigh the cost. As we carve out time to spend with Him, He supernaturally empowers us to maximize our time and streamline our efforts to where we can get more done in less time. Furthermore, an intimate relationship with Him is far more gratifying than any unwholesome relationship.

Lord, I thank You that You set the ultimate example of following the perfect will of the Father. I thank You that the fringe benefits of following You far outweigh the cost.
