My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. – John 10:27 (NIV)
Have you ever been conflicted over pleasing God and at the same time still trying to appease those around you? The fact of the matter is that you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. People can put unnecessary demands on you, even those closest to you, simply because God did not divulge to them the details of the intimate conversation between you and Him.
Many times we are the culprit of the confusion because we poll the opinions of a sea of people. The thing that we must remember is that God does not operate according to human logic, it may appear to others that you are out of step…marching to the beat of a different drummer. Your confidence and assurance over clearly hearing God’s message will come through spending quality and quantity time with Him. Being knowledgeable of the Bible is also a key component. We can rest assured that He would never call us to do something that is contrary to His Word.
Oh, how wonderful it would be to be in the world and not of it, to the point where we don’t feel conflicted over the opinions of others. Don’t get me wrong…not to the point where we disregard wise counsel but where we drown out the background noise so that we can march to the beat of our God and King, unswervingly.
Lord, help me to be sensitive to hearing Your voice to the point where I am able to march in perfect step with Your commands.
