Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. – Psalm 121:4 (NASB)
Have you ever felt like you were being watched? At first it may feel like the person is admiring you. If their gaze turns into a stare, it may then feel a bit creepy. What you thought to be a compliment may quickly turn into a concern. It can leave you feeling paranoid; like you must look over your shoulder constantly to make sure you are not being followed.
Although being watched typically has negative connotations, it is not always the case. There are actually people paid big bucks to watch over someone else. Take for instance the president; if you did not know the purpose that his body guards serve, you might think that he is being stalked. Instead, he draws comfort knowing that he is being watched.
The Bible states that God never goes to sleep. He is constantly watching us. Some may feel that is creepy concept, especially if they are doing things that they don’t want God to see. Nevertheless, God desires for this to serve as a comfort to us, knowing that He serves as our bodyguard 24/7. He also wants to interact with us every waking hour of our day.
Lord, I am thankful that even when I am sleeping You keep a watchful eye on me. Help me to wake up each morning with a sense of excitement knowing that You are waiting to greet me and walk with me throughout the day.
