Danger Zone

So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. – Revelation 3:16 (NIV)

Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ – Matthew 7:22-24 (NIV)

imagesCAIZKGTZAs you are driving along have you noticed the abundance of dead animals on the road? Many refer to this as road kill. I often wonder how long their life spans could have been if they had chosen not to venture out into the middle of the road that day. They lost their lives because they chose to venture out into a very dangerous place. Had they stayed on either side of the road their lives would probably have been spared.

God’s Word speaks about a middle of the road experience for humans. Many times we are afraid to choose sides because we fear opposition. After all, even if we choose to do the right thing we will endure hardship. That is just the nature of this fallen world. The Bible forewarns us that since we live in a fallen world, we will experience trouble.

Even though God’s desire is for everyone to choose His way, He still would rather a person choose to be cold in their faith rather than to be lukewarm. One of the worst witnesses for the Kingdom of God is when a person professes to be one way but remains in the middle of the road because they want to reap the benefits of both sides or for the sake of avoiding opposition. Being in the middle of the road only leaves one vulnerable to attacks. Without a strong conviction, others will gladly persuade you to follow their lead.

Prayer

Lord, I thank You for Your Word that teaches me how to draw near and be warmed by Your presence. I pray that the convictions that You place on my heart will be strengthened on a daily basis so that I will steer clear of the danger that awaits me in the middle of the road.
