In the Midst of Silence

On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived. When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him. Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. – Luke 2:21-22, 39-40, 41-42, 46-47 (NIV)

imagesCAO2UZ6OAt times, do you feel that God is missing in action? Perhaps He previously placed something on your heart that He would like to do through you but you have not heard from Him in a while. Perhaps you are looking for confirmation in order to assure you that you are still on the right tract.

As is evident in Jesus’ life, God wanted to do a mighty work through Him but He also experienced a period of silence. From the time He was an infant until He was 12 years old, the only thing we are told about Him is that personal growth took place, both inner and outer. God had not forgotten about Him nor did He change the vision. Nevertheless, a preparation period was necessary to adequately shape Him to carry out God’s plan.

If Jesus, being God in the flesh, required a preparation period what do you think that says about you and me? During the waiting period, it is important for you to keep constantly before you the words that God initially impressed upon your heart, in as much detail as possible. The best thing to do during this period is to continue to walk according to the last set of instructions you received from God until you receive additional instructions. It is in these times that your faith will be refined and you will learn to walk by faith and not by sight.

Lord, I thank You that during the period in my life whereas it seems that You are silent, You are actually weaving a masterpiece in the background. I thank You that in and through this period You are shaping me to fit the purpose for which You have brought me into existence.
