But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. – 1 Corinthians 15:10 (NIV)

imagesCA8LB01IAre you tired of getting the raw end of the deal? Perhaps you have worked very hard at your job only to get bypassed every time a promotion comes available. If that is not enough in itself, it has been given to someone who is younger and far less experienced. Perhaps even resentment is setting in. Where is the fairness in the world?

Regardless of where you look throughout the world, total and complete fairness cannot be found on this side of heaven. The sooner we accept this the more palatable the disappointments that we encounter in life will be. Otherwise, if we develop a “that’s not fair” mindset it can lead to us allowing disappointments to render us ineffective for God’s work. Thus, if we are out of alignment with God then we will be out of position to receive the blessings that God has in store for us.

Absolute justice and fairness can only be found in God. Things and people will surely let us down. If we place our hope and trust solely in God, He will never disappoint. With that being said, we have to trust in His sovereignty even when we don’t understand the purpose of an outcome. We have to trust that if He doesn’t grant our every wish, it is only because He knows what will be best in the end and He has a far better plan for us.

Lord, I thank You that You are trustworthy. I accept the fact that if things don’t go as I had planned, it is only because You have far better plans. I realize that when I don’t get my way, You just may be protecting me from aspects of the scenario that are foreseen only by You.
