Dressed for Success

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:11-17 (NIV)

imagesCASH9L2RDo you dress for success before leaving your house in the morning? Based on where you are going there is typically a spoken or unspoken dress code. Most of us are very self conscience about our appearance and strive to adhere to the establishment’s dress code. This is done in hopes of fitting in and being recognized as a member of the group.

Nevertheless, even though we have hopes of being accepted socially, the underlying reason why we coordinate our attire with that of our target group is to achieve success in that particular arena. The culture in which we live states that “dressing the part” is a main component to achieving success. Hence, if you wanted to engage in intense exercise in order to shed a few pounds you would not show up in a business suit and vice versa if you wanted to land a lucrative business contract.

The truth of the matter is that we spend more time dressing for worldly success than we do dressing for spiritual success. At times, we are so focused on achieving worldly success that we are oblivious to the spiritual warfare that awaits us at our destination. Hence, if we would take time suiting up for spiritual success, God is fully willing and able to work things out behind the scenes so that we can be successful in every arena of life.

Lord, I thank You for Your Word that tells me how to dress in order to achieve ultimate success. As I arrive at my destination fully dressed in my spiritual armor it cuts through even the most adverse atmospheres, pulls down strong holds and hems me in on all sides so that by the time I exit, I walk away with a confident assurance that success has been placed into my hands by You.
