Think Before You Speak

Do you think before you speak? What is the motive behind your words? If people take too long to reply in conversation, do you find yourself completing their sentences as well? Does your body language convey a message? Typically our body language speaks louder than words. After all, we live in such a fast paced world that our body language conveys the message that our time is too precious to waste on moments of silence.

The truth of the matter is that if we would take time to really contemplate what needs to be said before releasing the words into the atmosphere, it would save us and others a great deal of time and heartache. We would not have to spend so much time trying to undo so many hurtful words. Many say that it takes approximately five positive words to negate one negative word. That, my friend, appears to be a time waster in itself.

Thank goodness God knew in advance that we would struggle with this issue thus, He left written instruction to help us overcome negative speech. We are told that all of our words should be spoken in the name of Jesus. As we sift our words through His filtration system it affords us the opportunity to discern the difference between the words that would not meet His standards from those that would bring glory to His name.

Lord, thank You for Jesus who resides in me and serves as my internal filtration system to weed out unwholesome words. I commit to giving more thought to my choice of words before I speak and to allow others the same opportunity.
