Life to the Fullest Measure

What does it mean to have life to the fullest measure? Many of us spend our whole lives trying to implement what this means to us on a personal level. Some define a full life in light of living to a ripe old age. Some define a full life in light of acquiring ample material wealth. Even still, others view a full life in light of getting the freedom to travel and see the world after retirement.

Many times we focus on the latter part of the verse and ignore the former part or discount its relation to the latter. A misunderstanding of how the two parts fit together as a whole is what yields a self-fulfilled prophecy. The enemy would love to keep us oblivious to fact that the two sections of the verse fit hand in hand. There are even those who deny that a loving God would allow an enemy to attempt to deceive “good people”.

Nevertheless, God wants us to be fully aware of his tactics and to stand guard against the wiles of the enemy. Having life to the full is what God desires for every believer. As a matter of fact, it can be easily attained if we fully surrender our lives to Him in service. Hence, this requires that we abandon our personal definition of what it means to live a full life and seek to live out the purpose and plan for which God brought us into existence.

Lord, I thank You that life apart from You is absolutely meaningless. I lay my life down at the foot of the cross so that You can pick it back up and show me what it means to truly live life to the fullest measure.
