Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)
What do you do with products in the home that bear a toxic label? Most people put them far out of reach in order to prevent unwarranted occurrences. Rarely would someone willingly ingest a toxic product but at the same time many of us willingly engage in behaviors that are toxic to our being.
Toxicity is defined as the degree to which a particular substance can cause damage. With that being said, what in your life serves as the toxic substance that is causing damage? Perhaps you are in a toxic relationship that is causing emotional damage. Perhaps your body takes a beating because you make poor food choices and not only that, you neglect it from getting proper rest. Even still, perhaps you are trapped in a sin pattern that is crushing your spirit.
Nevertheless, even though we may not consume substances that are clearly marked with a toxic label, we allow toxic things to seep in because we don’t fully comprehend that our bodies are not our own possessions. We are His divine masterpiece created not to self-serve but to subserve…we were purchased at a high price to represent Him, bring Him glory and fellowship in eternity with Him.
Lord, help me to honor You by taking care of myself mentally, physically and spiritually. Help me to identify the toxic things in my life and take it a couple of steps further by renouncing it and removing it, so that I can be freed up to serve You wholeheartedly.
