Tasks are Mere Vehicles

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:34-35 (NIV)

Do you feel as though there are not enough hours in the day to complete all the tasks that is on your agenda? Perhaps your goal is to simply check off as many tasks as possible to the point that you’re just going through the motions. Perhaps you are task driven to meet the demands of a boss, family members, ministry, etc.

Unfortunately, when we are task driven instead of relationship driven we sadly miss the reason for our existence. Tasks are only a means that gives us an opportunity to interact with people in order to display the love of Christ. It’s a vehicle, if you will, to deliver the greatness of God.

Hence, before we start our day and perhaps periodically during the day, we must ask God to help us to keep the main thing, the main thing. Despite the constant demands to get more things accomplished in less time, we must retrain our minds to view task as an invitation to positively impact lives for Christ.

Lord, I thank You for task that merely serve the purpose of intersecting humanity in order get a little bit of heaven down to earth. Thank You for giving us the ability to mimic the relationship that You have with Jesus.
