The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. — Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)
Do you take advantage of a brand new beginning with the dawn of each day? Perhaps your brain goes into an instant replay mode as soon as you open your eyes, recycling the thoughts of yesterday. It may even seem like a cat and mouse chase where the cares of the world prompt you to jump to your feet and hit the ground running as though you will be devoured by the “big bad cat” if you don’t stay at least one stride ahead.
Nevertheless, God has given us an enormous gift to be able to shut the door on yesterday and wake up to a glorious new start. It may be hard to fathom but we get a “do over” every single day. If that were not enough, He has designed sleep so that we can have a time out session, if you will, so that our bodies can be repaired, restored and rejuvenated.
At this point, you may even be thinking that you would love to have a do over each day. If this is so, the moment that you are conscious that it is a brand new day, try picturing yourself entering into a verdant pasture where it’s just you and God, absolutely void of racing thoughts and pre-meditated agendas. Give God free reign to populate this space with the activities that He would have for you to accomplish along with the thought process that it will take to execute the assignments.
Lord, I’m weary from allowing my circumstances to dictate my thoughts and actions. With each waking day, I vow to receive the gift of newness filled strictly with things and thoughts that have eternal value and significance.
