The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. –Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)
Like me, do you find yourself caught up at times reacting to life circumstances? The script usually goes something like this, “can you believe how rude she was to me?” or “can you believe how unfair he is being after all I’ve done for him?” Sometimes this will go on for days at a time before I recognize who and what the battle truly is about. Once I recognize that there is a pattern to this madness, I find myself saying, “What was that all about”? At this point, I think the important thing is not to get stuck on over analyzing what just happened but to plan for what’s about to happen. It’s time to flip the script. We’ve been given all the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to implement our own spiritual intervention and turn some tables around.
Take God for example. From the very first verse of the first book of the Bible, He laid out in plain lay terms how we could live a life of victory….not some days, but everyday. He did not wait for things to happen, He made the first move by speaking into the atmosphere and as a result things came into being. The atmosphere did not have a choice; it had to yield to His voice and as a response…produce. With the deposit of the Holy Spirit in every believer, we have also been given great authority to speak in the forefront instead of complaining about our circumstances in the background. In God’s eyes we are all trendsetters but in satan’s eyes on the other hand, he likes to think of us as an after thought…one void of power. It’s up to us to decide whose word we will walk and live by. One is led by victory; the other is followed by defeat.
The most awesome thing about God’s Word and Power is that we don’t have to wait for the Ferris wheel operator to determine when he will bring us back around in order to exit the ride. The destructive truth of the matter is that it’s a never ending ride with him. We have the ability to say enough is enough, get off midstream and speak some positive things into our future. Will you make the choice with me today to live out the rest of your days in a proactive manner, instead of reactive?
Lord, help me to recognize that there is enormous power in the tongue. Today I choose to speak life in the forefront, instead of death in the background.
