And though the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians, you, Sovereign LORD, say to me, ‘Buy the field with silver and have the transaction witnessed.’ -Jeremiah 33:25 (NIV)
In the account of Jeremiah, I reckon battle cries were heard from miles away as the Babylonians approached to besiege the city. With their adrenalin-induced hearts pounding in sync, the impact was probably intense enough to register on the Richter scale. Despite the chaos and his imprisonment, Jeremiah quieted his spirit so that the voice of God was able to pierce the noise straight through to his heart.
In the midst of the scene, as the Babylonians were drawing nearer and the area would soon be referred to as a desolate wasteland, the Lord was ready to give Jeremiah the game plan. The first play was given as He instructed him that he was to buy a piece of land from his cousin who was on his way to see him. God went on to give him a couple of other plays as He instructed him on how to handle the deed, as well as how to store the copies in a manner that would preserve them until the day He would restore the land.
No matter what part of the world we live in, there are various noises that try to contend with the voice of God. Instead of flowing in the stream of chaos, like Jeremiah we have a choice to not get swept away with the current. As we quiet our spirits, we will sense that God has a game plan over our circumstances as well.
Lord, I thank you that no matter how chaotic my surrounds may be, You have the ability to pierce though the noise and give me play by play instructions. Help me to be good listener.
